Thal: Uncover the Evil Within [K] LG Soft, Hanbit Soft / Hanbit Soft 1999

Like many Korean RPGs (Iljimae, Mangguk Jeon'gi) the scenario was based off the winning entry of a game writing contest contest. Looking at the game superficially, it looks just like a Diablo clone, although the dungeons are not generated randomly. There's also no safe hub for the player to recover and the game drops players right inmidst haunted ruins full of ghosts and zombies, making the game very difficult. A multiplayer mode is also missing, instead one gets to recruit (bad) AI controlled mercenaries. At the '97 Republic of Korea Game Awards, the scenario won as it pioneered a new milestone in Korean fantasy through the thorough historical research and data collection based on the ancient myth of Korea organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The introduction of a secondary character not seen in strategic games, and you cannot have a moment to relax with improved Artificial Intelligence. The real action, including 3D scanning and motion capture technology was introduced to make the sophisticated and stylish action game even more fun. Eastern mystical worldview introduced thorough investigation and reproduced background data and characters with historical research, also opened a new chapter in Korean fantasy. Background music includes percussion, and court music.
