Ori and the Blind Forest Moon Game Studios / Microsoft Studios 2015

For the past four years, this platformer has been developed and was inspired by Super Metroid, and Zelda: A Link to the Past. It's a bit of a genremix – It's a "Metroidvania", but with a stronger platforming focus and light RPG elements, all set within an atmospheric world. It pushes 2D gaming forward on all fronts: every single screen in Ori looks like a painting come to life and the controls are still pixel-perfect. It also pushes the story angle really hard and it's heavily influenced by Ghibli/Miyazaki as well as by great animated films of the 90s like The Lion King or The Iron Giant. Ori is a bit of a coming-of-age story. The player is put into the role of a forest spirit, who – over the course of his journey – has to find out more about his role within the world he's living in. We tried to create memorable characters in an atmospheric world and to craft a story that players will truly care about. In Mar 11/2016, a remastered Definitive Edition was released with a "sizable" new world to play in, called Black Root Burrows where you’re discovering the past of Naru, the mother character. It also adds an expanded theatre mode, which strings together the game's cut-scenes and cinematic moments; a new move, the dash, which can be merged with the original game's range of moves and jumps; a new attack manoeuvre known as the Light Burst, which is more or less a grenade; and a new easy difficulty setting.
