This is a dark fantasy Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMORPG) with a large amount of player interaction with other players and the world. The game takes place in the world of Aerynth during the Age of Strife - a dark period in the history of the world. Players can play as one of 10 races and over 20 character classes. One of the most notable aspects of the game is the high level of player-versus-player combat (PvP). "Feature characters", portrayed by actors hired by the developer, play important people in the world. Politics is also a major part of gameplay. Unlike many other MMORPGs, it puts all the players in one large conglomerated set of worlds rather than mirrored shards/servers. It was the first major MMO to offer dynamic world content as a primary feature of the game. Most MMOs are static, meaning the world itself does not change based on player actions. Dynamic worlds allow player to change the game world itself; morphing terrain, building and destroying buildings and fortifications, and setting up patrol paths for player-hired AI combatants. Beyond the price of the game software, players must pay a monthly fee to play this exclusively online game. On March 15, 2006 the game was made free-to-play. It closed on July 1, 2009. There are a few free player run servers out there still for anyone who wants to play. But they offer their own builds of the client for download and are not compatible with the original cd.
