Fisher-Price: Time to Play - Pet Shop Davidson & Associates / The Learning Company 1996

This is an educationally based role-playing game for children ages four to seven. Players can purchase, feed, groom, and doctor animals for a simulated pet shop, as well as sing songs along with game characters Ben and Emily. After purchasing animals for their shop, players can see pictures and read descriptions of several types of dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and other critters. Each description can be played aloud, or read by the player, and the pictures can be printed as coloring pages. One animal can be selected from each category for their shop. Options are plentiful once animals are selected. Select pet food and feed the animals accordingly. Click on the sink and go to the grooming center, where animals can be shampooed, styled, and dressed in crazy costumes. There is also an aquarium that can be stocked with a dozen different types of fish, as well as props such as mermaids and castles. As in other areas, the aquarium can be printed out as a coloring page. Another option allows children to play as a veterinarian and doctor their pets. After selecting the doctor's bag on the main screen using the point-and-click interface, players are presented with a book where all the patients and their ailments are listed. After choosing a patient, various instruments can be used from the doctor's bag to treat the animal. Ailments range from sprains to itchy skin. A sing-along section offers five songs, including "It's Feeding Time" and "At the Pet Shop."
