Sellardore Tales Topologika Software Ltd. 2002

This game was first developed circa 1991 for the BBC Micro and Archimedes (with a separate version to take advantage of the extra memory offered by the MS128), published through Sherston. This remake is a medieval fantasy-themed educational text adventure that sets before its players the task of rescuing the community of Sellardore by removing an obstruction in The Black River that is causing the denizens nearby to languish and starve. Though the game takes input through a very simple text parser, the visuals and sound in this enhanced multimedia version (as well as clickable buttons for directions, game options and visual inventory access) downplay its fundamentally old-school interface. The game also has two difficulty modes, the easiest (and default) employing only those puzzles occurring in the original game, plus an advanced mode with additional puzzles getting in the way. In addition to various materials for classroom activities, the game is accompanied by a 56-page illustrated story book, "Zorin, the Curse of Sellardore", establishing the setting and premise of the game. (The storybook also appears on the CD-ROM as a "talking story" program.)
