Head Coach: NFL Reading Santuary Woods 1996

The program that rewrites the book on reading. Most reading programs make a classic mistake. They use traditional works of literature. Now think about it for a minute. If the reading material isn't interesting, if it isn't relevant... to kids... how will they learn the difference between knowing what a sentence says and what it means? That's the problem NFL Reading tackles. Packed with passages featuring real pro football facts and stats, this game lets kids- playing against each other or the computer- pick their favorite NFL teams. They call a play, then read a passage. How well they answer determines how well their team does in a 3D photo-realistic football game that gives reading skills a real workout. To practice reading comprehension, kids team up with the pros, reading more than 1,800 passages packed with interesting information about real NFL teams and players. Spelling and reading go hand in hand. That's why the program not only includes hundreds of spelling words, it lets kids enter their own and have them actually appear in the game. Multiple levels of difficulty allow kids of different ages or skills to compete against each other on a level playing field, answering more than 3,200 reading, spelling and vocabulary questions. All work and no play is no fun. That's why there are four arcade-style games that kids can play to improve their team's running, passing, blocking and tackling skills.
