This is the third and final part in Westwood's Lands of Lore series. You play as Copper LeGré, bastard son of Eric Legré, brother of King Richard and commander of the White Army. On a pig hunt with your father and brothers, some rift hounds appear from another dimension and kill your brethren and father. You can escape, but they take your soul with them. It is your task to prove yourself in a world where everyone suspects you from having killed your father and brothers to claim the throne. Your second task is to find out how to get your soul back. Just like the previous games, this is an action RPG played from the first-person perspective. After the introduction, you can perform tasks to join one or more guilds: Fighters, Clerics, Magicians and Thieves. Each guild comes with different abilities, and by using actions linked to the guild (fighting with swords, using magic, healing, lockpicking), your expertise improves. You are also offered a familiar, a creature that helps during your quests. Copper has a large inventory, room for spells, a compass, a map, a journal and meters for health, mana and hunger. There is a fairly large amount of freedom; you can kill innocent NPC's and choose your own way to finish the game, with many side-quests. The locations include a volcano world, a frozen world, the underworld and various caves, woods, liars and castles. One of the more bizarre locations, Shattered Desert, takes you into a complex reminiscent of the Command & Conquer universe. |
