Virtual Corporation Microforum International / TopWare Interactive 1996

Make your way up to the top in a future company. But that's not the only goal of Virtual Corporation; additionally, you have to find a murderer. The game takes place in the future where the vast majority of society works on and in an offshoot of the Internet. The difference is that this net is totally VR based, where users plug themselves in via a headjack to literally appear on the net. Virtual Corporation attempts to simulate this environment by creating virtual police, a virtual government, companies, arcades, vacations, discos, etc. In order to exist on the net, users must purchase a VR persona from the government and power from the local power plant to exist there. Should you run out of power, the game is over and a movie shows you plummeting to your death from an office window. The game itself starts you as a new hire of Pogodyne Systems with the ultimate goal being to work your way up to being company President. Gameplay consists of answering your phone and having simple interactions with your managers and coworkers; and an occasional virus attack. During this time, you slowly gain stress points, which are fatal to you when you reach the maximum level. The ways to get rid of stress are to go on vacation or playing games in the arcade. The game is mainly based on a multiple choice question/answer system and has some short sub-games included. All graphics are a mixture of rendered backgrounds and more or less static videos. This was the first speech-controlled "multimedia adventure" (with a microphone included).
