Corum Side Story / Corum Oejeon: Igye-ui Gangnipja-deul [K] Hicom Entertainment 1999

As civilization developed, technology began to dominate human life. But just like before, corruption and injustice continued to flourish. The gap between the rich and the poor became wider than ever. A new religious movement known as Advent attracted the lower circles of the society by promising them equality and strengthening their belief in magic. Eventually the government sent an army to destroy Advent's headquarters. Meanwhile, a rebellious youngster named Archer meets a mysterious young woman called Amy, who seems to have lost her memory, and becomes involved in an ideological struggle that may affect the fate of the entire world. This oejeon (side story) in the Korean-made Corum series differs from the previous installment by being a Japanese-style turn-based (rather than action) role-playing game. The player navigates a party of characters on the overworld, accessing and exploring towns, dungeons, and other locations viewed from an isometric perspective. Enemies are visible during exploration; a contact with one of them initiates a battle, during which the player can move characters on the field and position them tactically. There is also a real-time element in combat, similar to the ATB system of Final Fantasy games. Characters can equip a variety of weapons and armor, and train elemental magic disciplines. The game utilizes pre-rendered backgrounds for both exploration and battle graphics.
