God of Thunder Adept Software / Software Creations 1993

The year is 927 A.D. (as mortals reckon time) and the Almighty ODIN has summoned you, his faithful and heroic son, to The Great Hall of Asgard. Armed with only your enchanted hammer and considerable wits, you must journey to Midgard and destroy Jormangund! God of Thunder was written by Ron Davis. It was never given much of a chance in the shareware market due to lack of funding, so this great game remains very rare. Its unique combination of strategy and arcade action on the PC make it a classic favorite. It has strong elements of puzzle-solving. Thor explores Midgard, fighting enemies in action-based combat, using his hammer or lightning attacks. Many hazards are there to make the hero's life difficult, and the player must solve puzzles to protect Thor and advance the story. The puzzles range from simple exercises in re-arranging objects to more complex examples that occupy the entire screen. Most of the game is viewed from a top-down perspective, though there are platform sequences as well. The creator released the game as freeware in 2000.
