A two-dimensional platformer game inspired by the classic, side-scroll representatives of the genre. It was created by a Dutch developer popular mainly for the arcade-logic Toki Tori series. RIVE takes the player to an unspecified region of the galaxy, where they face an army of hostile robots, having taken control over a modern-day combat drone. Not only is the player-controlled drone able to move on surfaces, but it can also jump and fly, causing destruction within a radius of 360 degrees. What is more, the player can hack hostile machinery and affect its behaviour, which is done by collecting power-ups. In terms of the mechanics, the game follows the patterns established by classic platformers, though it offers up-to-date visuals – RIVE is filled with spectacular special effects. The gameplay itself is incredibly fast-paced here, offering an arcade experience without unnecessary boundaries. |
