Quake 4 Raven Software / Activision 2005

Announced as being in development back in 2001, the first true info and images were releasd in a PC Gamer article in Sep/2004. id though has handed the reigns over to Raven Software, developers of Heretic, Hexen, SOF2 and Jedi Academy. Whenever id makes new technology, Raven is in on it from the beginning and using the Doom 3 engine enabled them to concentrate on the single and multiplayer game elements rather than the engine. Quake IV will actually form a direct sequel to Quake II and you'll renew combat against the cybernetic Strogg just moments after the original game ended with the defeat of the Makron. However this time you won't be fighting alone and you'll be battling alongside fellow marines who Raven are certain will prove more than just Strogg-fodder this time around. The battle is set to commence on both interior and exterior levels across the Strogg homeworld and of course there'll be the classic weapons, featuring returning favourites like the blaster, machinegun, nailgun and shotgun. Most intriguingly of all, Quake IV is set to feature vehicular combat for the very first time. Multiplayer modes are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Tourney, Capture the Flag, Arena CTF and DeadZone. Notable new additions to play are the ability to send shots through the teleporters and the advancement of the game physics provided by the new technology including the ability to bounce grenades and napalm fire off of jump-pads. Crouch slides give players the ability to maintain speed by sliding around corners. Ramp Jumps allow players to gain extra height from jumping as they reach the top of an inclined object. You can use hover tanks, a tram, and mechs (remote-controlled giant robots). During the game, some of the soldiers and commanders you meet will give you orders and missions, and you also receive radio commands too. In some parts of the game you receive help from fellow soldiers, which proves handy because they usually do a pretty good job in assisting. The A.I. enemies are also fairly formidable; they attempt to evade your fire, as well as physically jump at you from ceilings, floors, and walls.
