Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay Starbreeze Studios / Tigon Studios / Vivendi Universal Games 2004

A PC port of the well-received console game based on the Vin Diesel sci-fi film where you become Riddick and break out of the galaxy's most deadly prison in this compelling 1st person action experience. Set before the events of both The Chronicles of Riddick and the 2000 cult classic Pitch Black, which first introduced Diesel as enigmatic anti-hero Riddick, the game tells the story of Riddick's dramatic escape from the previously inescapable triple max security slam Butcher Bay, home to the most violent prisoners in the galaxy. An intense original storyline reveals secrets of Riddick's past and epic destiny. Fight up close and personal with fists or knives or use stealth to defeat your enemies. Riddick's trademark "eye-shine" enables players to see in the dark and provides a whole new element of stealth. A "stealth mode" is activated when the player character crouches. The player moves silently while in stealth mode, and can drag bodies out of sight and hide from enemies; the screen's edges are tinted blue when the player is hidden. The mode grants attacks that quickly kill enemies; the player may drop on enemies from above, or execute them from behind. There'd more than 30 levels set across three unique Maximum Security, Double-Max, and Triple-Max prison areas, more than 20 different enemy types each unique to specific areas of the game, and more than 15 different weapons including home-made shivs, and high-powered Assault rifles. The PC version is a "Developer's Cut" which features a higher display resolution, additional cigarette packs, and two added levels (Security Research 1&2). In these, which play just before you get to Tower 19 you get to explore a bit more of the military complex and you get to use a Riot Guard mecha suit. There's a "Developer's Commentary" which occasionally appears when playing through portions of a level that have a noteworthy piece of trivia about them. A hi–definition re-imagined version of was released in 2009 called The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena with an entirely new chapter added.
