You control the Arbiter, once a person of a high rank in Xilai religious hierarchy. The Xilai were known for many things, such as their artistry, magical arts and unity. Events preceding the game have led to your exile, and now, after many years you return back, only to find fortresses and lands overrun with demonic spawns and vile beasts. Why were you exiled? What could cause this desolation? It's time to find some answers... and reap some demon spawn in the name of Pale Mistress. Wherever you go you'll be facing unrelenting monsters, traps and locked passages, and can only depend on yourself and your equipment to survive the trials. A powerful finishing blow can rip a part of the enemy right out of him, while critically over damaging an opponent literally blows them to pieces, with limbs flying across the room and sticking to the walls.

Scorn Ebb Software [top]

Release Date: TBA This is an atmospheric first-person horror adventure game set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and somber tapestry. It is designed around the idea of "being thrown into the world". It's heavily inspired by the works of H.R. Giger, the creator of the xenomorph from the Alien franchise. Isolated and lost inside this dream-like world, you will explore different interconnected regions in a non-linear fashion. The unsettling environment is a character itself. Every location contains its own theme (story), puzzles and characters that are integral in creating a cohesive world. Throughout the game you will open up new areas, acquire different skill sets, weapons, various items and try to comprehend the sights presented to you. Cohesive "lived-in" world - it takes place in an open-ended world with different interconnected regions. Each region is a maze-like structure with various rooms and paths to discover. All the storytelling happens in-game, with no cut-scenes to distract you from the grisly reality of the living, breathing world you’re in. But keep your eyes open - the game won't show you any sympathy if you miss something important on your uneasy travels. Everything has a reason and purpose - you just need to work out what it is. Full body awareness – Players will experience better immersion being aware of the character's body and movement. Interaction with the world is realistic - objects are picked up with your hands (instead of just floating in midair), machines and instruments are operated by grabbing the controls etc. Inventory and ammo management - is defined and limited. It plays a big role in keeping the player in an even greater state of awareness throughout the whole game. Players will have to think about when to fight and when to take cover and how their actions affect the world around them. Different play styles will be needed to advance. Part 1: Dasein, Part 2 (TBA).

Squadron 42 Chris Roberts, Foundry 42 / Cloud Imperium Games [top]

Early Access Release Date: TBA Initially a part of Star Citizen, Squadron 42 will now be a standalone FPS game or as an add-on for Star Citizen itself. It has a singleplayer offline campaign, in which the player-controlled character joins an elite squadron of star fighters. It features characters played by high-profile actors including Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Andy Serkis, John Rhys-Davies, Mark Strong, and Ben Mendelsohn, among others. The titular Squadron takes some features after French Foreign Legion – it is an elite force, tasked with the toughest jobs, and joining its ranks is considered a great honor. This mode offers a classic campaign, like in Wing Commander, with extensive narrative, carefully designed missions and battles, and interesting non-player characters voiced by famous actors. It is noteworthy that they invested in their own motion capture studio, which they used extensively, mainly for the purpose of Squadron 42 story campaign. With no loading breaks, you can zoom in a spaceship to a station and be in an FPS level. This smooth transition from space to detailed interiors is an important part, and lets you both fly ships and travel on foot. The game's levels are more like multiplayer maps than linear mazes that the player is funnelled through. There's several different entry points, some stealthy, some noisy. Every level will offer multiple ways to enter, exit, and complete objectives. If you cause a ruckus, enemies will call in reinforcements, but they won’t magically appear from a 'monster closet'. They'll be nearby, in ships, and will fly in to help. But if you manage to sneak onto the base quietly, you might be able to take over its AA guns and blast that backup out of the sky, leaving the base helpless as you begin your assault. It will take place in a small area of Star Citizen’s overall galaxy - but that's 'small' in a galactic sense. It's a massive chunk of space, and completely open. You'll be able to fly freely between stations and star systems, pursuing both the main story and secondary, optional missions. It also offers cooperation of players and, traditionally, multiplayer battles. Spectacular visuals are generated by the CryEngine 3 engine. The game is planned to be released in multiple chapters, the first of which is expected to be available to eligible backers of the project in early 2016, offering an estimated of 20 hours of gameplay for SQ42 Episode 1 with about 70 missions worth of game play, "Squadron 42 Episode Two: Behind Enemy Lines" and "Episode 3," will launch later in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

System Shock Remastered Nightdive Studios [top]

Release Date: Apr A remake of the 1994's System Shock. The original game was developed by Looking Glass Studios and is considered a classic of the genre, combining shooter mechanics with RPG elements in a cyberpunk setting. This new edition was created by the developer known for 2015's enhanced edition of the same game. This recreates the original story, taking the player to the Citadel space station. As an experienced hacker, the protagonist has to face Shodan - an artificial intelligence in control of the station. The gameplay mechanics of the original game remain at the core of this edition. Thus the game combines first-person shooter mechanics with elements of RPG and an extensive hacking system. Most of changes the remake brings are related to the visuals. These were made from scratch, in cooperation with Rob Waters - the level designer of the original game. Both the interface and controls were heavily reworked, in order for them to follow the standards of modern FPS. It includes the original Voice Actor of SHODAN, Terri Brosius.

Tomb Raider 2 Fan Remake Nicobass [top]

Release Date: TBA Tomb Raider has been around for just over 20 years and despite all our great memories of the original trilogy, they haven't exactly held up visually. However, a small group of independent developers has taken on the task of remastering a classic Tomb Raider title. Chief developer Nicobass has been leading a small development team in remastering Tomb Raider II for several years. You can play part of the Great Wall of China level redone in Unreal Engine 4 in the first demo which contains an hour of gameplay. The amount of work put into this is pretty mind-blowing. Some of the lighting effects in that cave sequence look particularly beautiful. After a few minutes of watching it's clear that underneath that new coat of paint is the original Tomb Raider II gameplay, clunky controls and all.
