Have a look at this site..

Postby Carbon » Sun Feb 24, 2013 4:27 am

...and see if there is anything that is worthwhile for me to pick up. The site is in Korean, but I will give a guide here. Best to use IE...Korean sites don't like Firefox / Chrome too much. Most of the titles have English listed, if not, then they are either Korean games or Japanese. Clicking on the title will bring up a bigger picture (often with good box pics or screenies) if you can't make out what it is.

http://www.cdgem.co.kr/

On the left side "Shopping Category":

Strategy / Tactics Game
Love / nurturing / Living Games
Construction / management game
Flight / racing game
RPG game
Online game
Action game
Military Action Game
Adventure game
Sports / Leisure Games
Arcade / Shooting games
Children / Education / Software
Monarch / Chess / Board Games
Adult Games
Pre-game
Cheonwondae Corner (Thousand won corner = cheap stuff; this is where I found some gems.)
Console game
DVD / VCD
Other Products

I have found some pretty cool stuff there. For reference: [PC주얼] means jewel case, [PC박스] means big box. Also, 1000 won is about $1.00 +/-

Have a look and post back with any items of interest. :)

I tried searching for Golden Impossible and got this download page which says to register but I tried and it didn't go through. It might be fake though - http://i1.freecount.net/gme38

Yeah, the site is a sham.

Anyhow...Lacenza it is. Strange thing is, I couldn't find this game anywhere. I found a copy (at the above site) that was from a PC magazine here, but it says "Disc 2"; not sure if disk one is for the game or the other half of a set of CDs for that magazine. I haven't installed the game yet myself (just got a new PC built), so it is kind of unknown. Check it out and get back to me. I can keep digging, but finding that title has been problematic in the past.

I zipped it because my .iso software (UltraISO) doesn't seem to support Hangul. Maybe you guys know better software? Until then or for now, a .zip. Sorry.

Yep, 75 bucks my wife will not let me spend right now! Been pushing the envelope lately with my Unreal collecting obsession... :( I'll see what I can do....

Here're the covers for Lazenca (you can clearly see 2CD-ROM at the top right corner):

Here's the entry at MobyGames:

Thanks, I'll check that. Keep searching for the 1st missing CD, don't give up. :)

You don't have to buy all that stuff at once. To my mind, it would be great, even if you contribute at least one game from this list.

Sure. I will pick up Golden Impossible (if that is indeed the first priority) in the next day or two. I have an order coming in tomorrow, but that game isn't on the list. I will order it tomorrow or Thursday. That site only deals cash bank deposits; I order, go to the bank and put the money in their account, then the next day....games! The site is totally legit and the guy has been really good to me regarding fast delivery service (next day) and providing games in great condition. That is one of the few Korean sites (Gmarket as well) that lets foreigners register. Did you know that Gmarket - http://english.gmarket.co.kr/ - delivers worldwide? Yep, and as far as I know, anyone can join. Look into it; it may be worthwhile.

I saw the rundown at MG and yes, it is 2 CDs. Funny the guy is selling one-offs. He pulled the same with me on a supposed magazine copy of Unreal Tournament. I ordered 3 thinking they would be kind of unique versions, but no, he just sent 3 copies of retail CD1! Ah well. And he didn't reply to my email about it asking for the right one. A bit suspect, but the site hasn't let me down otherwise.

Anyhow, I will get the one right away. Any suggestions on the ripping software? I have been looking, but to be honest, I don't rip the Korean games that I own much....until now, of course!

I suggest that:
-2, the protection and the CDA tracks. Many recent games have anticopy protections. You have heard of StarForce, SecuROM, TAGES, SolidShield, and others? Well, these can be circumvented with the use of special softwares. If you have the retail copy of a game and you know it has a protection, you have to dump it with CloneCD, Alcohol or BlindWrite.
Remember: a protected game in a .iso file won't work unless you get a crack for it.
If for any reason you can't provide a good clone, you should include a crack - you can take one on GameCopyWorld.
If you're not sure about the protection, use a tool like PID to scan a disc for protection.
Finally, if your game doesn't have protection, you can dump it with any software, but we prefer untouched images made with CloneCD. Anyway, whatever the format is, your uploads always will be welcome :)

With CD-Audio tracks: some games (also depending of their game engine) use audio tracks stored on the CD. Only CloneCD or BIN/CUE formats support CDA tracks.
Discussion on game engines and CDA tracks: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11347

About floppy disks: if you have old floppies laying around and you want to share them, you can clone them with WinImage. But of course you will need a floppy disk reader - and it's the hardest thing to find :D

Some other tools are listed HERE.

Good stuff Molitor, thanks!

I was hoping more for some input from someone who has some experience ripping CDs with East-Asian languages. Rather than installing each program to see which works, I thought maybe someone knows of/uses something that does this well. Ultra ISO shows Korean as ????, and won't make an image as a result of not being able to recognize the naming.

Anyhow, if nobody rings in, then I will go through the list of software and see if one handles Korean better. That or I will just get some native Korean software, but that will leave me wondering if you folks can deal with the resulting image.

Thanks again.

Carbon, you shouldn't even worry about Korean or any other language. Making an image of a medium means a per-sector copy of it's data content, which is organized in so-called sectors. It's not related to file systems in any way. If your OS supports East Asian languages (for instance, Windows provides this additional feature after installing the necessary files), then after mounting an image to a virtual drive, you'll see all non-Latin alphabet characters displayed correctly. I would suggest using CloneCD (for a novice) or IsoBuster (experienced user). Korean bootlegs usually are not copy protected. Old originals (boxed editions or jewel retails) may have SafeDisc applied. In most cases CCD will be enough to make a proper dump.

Right, thanks.

However, when the folders on the disc are labeled in Korean, they show up as question marks in Ultra ISO when making an image and it produces an error stating that it cannot create (or re-create, as the case may be) the specified file name(s). This is my only concern. It is past the blind process of making an image and halts at the language used. If you have a look inside the .zip file I uploaded, you will see some folders in Korean; these are the problems for UltraISO (which, by the way, claims to have Korean language support). It cannot make the folder due to its' inability to reproduce the folder name, thus the contents of that folder are also 'skipped' in the process, making a faulty and/or incomplete image.

Clone CD is as it was many years ago...well, not for me, let's say. I will try IsoBuster and see. As I said, it isn't about my inability to understand software, nor ignorance of how this software functions; it is about the ability of that software to deal with the Korean language without error. I have never needed to make rips of CDs with Korean language in the content (my computer deals with it fine, as will any with Korean language support installed), so this has never come up for me. Korean image-making software would be the easiest choice for me, and is probably the direction that I will end up going. Let's just hope that your image management software doesn't have the same linguistic inadequacies of UltraISO! :)

Thanks for the tips though. Always good to remind ones' self.

Carbon, I added Lazenca to database: http://www.legendsworld.net/adventure/game/8185
Can you make and upload CD image of Lazenca as well, please?

P.S. As far as I can recall, I have PCGM6 somewhere.

Since some people use UltraISO for making disk images, I'll tell about my fresh experience.

'ISO optimization' claim by UltraISO caught my interest, so I checked it. Maybe they referred only to ISOs created from files, but when you make disk image, there is another option that reduces file size (and is on by default) - Enanble ISO Volume Filter. Uncheck it, like on the screenshot, or you'll be running a risk to produce a broken ISO file. (Happened with hybrid disk.) Just be aware.

Carbon, you don't need to open CD to make a disk image of it. In UltraISO go Tools->Make CD/DVD Image (or press F8), select your drive, uncheck Skip Bad Sectors and Enanble ISO Volume Filter, fill in Output FileName, press Make. Good luck.
My gratitude goes to all contributors.

Topic... rise from your grave!
I'm lurking this site for quite some time and I want to buy some korean s h I t. Website appearance seems a bit outdated, any idea if cdgem.co.kr is still alive and running? I noticed you can find exact same games and seller on gmarket, interpark and others but prices are different (higher).
Please help me! Check HERE for my requests / most wanted titles!
