FOR XP
I haven't played this game in a long time, but if I remember correctly I think it needs the IPX protocol installed to play in multiplayer mode. Do you have IPX installed and bound to your network card?

If the game runs in XP, you need IPX installed on each of the connected computers like HB said. I've played some games in the past this way, though I forget which. You probably already have the "Client for Microsoft Networks" installed if you're running a LAN.

If that's really not working, you might try something like Hamachi or Gamer's Internet Tunnel. I haven't tried either of these, so I don't know if they really work over LAN as well as internet, but might be worth looking.

I doubt that since NFS2SE was released for Windows 9X. I have seen cases where DOS-based games that used IPX wouldn't work on XP, but not one for an earlier version of Windows like NFS2SE.

You may simply have your IPX configured wrong. Make sure all PC's are set to the same frame type and not just "autodetect." Also make sure that the network number of all of the PC's is the same.

as far as i know this protocol was the standard protocol for LAN gaming many years ago

in times were DOOM 1 and 2 DUKE NUKEM 3d HEXEN etc......got played....

i believe the new one is the TCP/IP protocol this one gets used nowadays i think

but both of them are pretty famous i think.......
sounds exotic to me that some people dont know about the IPX protocol
Idiots are just like the weather. You have to live with it.

You can play NFS2SE using TCP! But first, you will need the patch for that:

NFS2SE Update:
Updates
- Addition: TCP network protocol.
- Addition: Ability to play network games with a "peer to peer" packet transfer model.
- Fix: Force Feedback chugging.
- Fix: Videos by-passed when a fluttering or uncalibrated joystick was plugged in.

Files Changed
The following files have been patched:
nfs2sea.exe
nfs2sen.exe
text.*

NOTE: If you do not have the updated text.* files in the same directory as the .exe file, the game will not run.

There is some crack for it but I can't locate it now, if requested I'll search it in my archive.

Download: http://www.branati.com.br/programas/Gam ... -patch.zip

Update: Download crack here: http://www.megagames.com/fixes/need-spe ... =downloads (NFS2SNET.ZIP) (may need TPPatch if you receive runtime error 200)

If you have problems running the game:

* Download and install Application Compatibility Tool 4.1.
* Run Compatibility Administrator from Start Menu.
* Go to Custom Database / New Database.
* Click 'Fix' button.
* Type the name of the game, vendor, and browse to NFS2SEA.EXE file. If it is not in NFS2SE folder on your hard drive yet, then copy it manually from CD.
* Click Next, None, Next.
* Toggle following positions on:
  • - CorrectFilePaths
    - EmulateGetDiskFreeSpace
    - GlobalMemoryStatusLie
* Click Next, Finish.
* Save your database preferably in game directory.
* Now click on NFS2SEA.EXE file in the right panel of Compatibility Administrator. Click Run button. The game should start.

NOTE: If you want to play it next time you need to run Compatibility Administrator again, load your database, click on NFS2SEA.EXE file and Run button.

I know this topic is very old...
anyway there is much more simple solution.
just use modern engine which was re-written for this game.

if anybody would want to play it on linux then
