Running GfWL games

Postby hgdagon » Mon Nov 16, 2015 2:07 pm

I've recently had problems with 2 different games, both connected to GfWL.
First, I heard about this game, called Tinker, which, apparently, comes preinstalled with WinVista, but was later removed from Win7. Now I've read that you could download it and it will run run fine under Win7. Despite the fact that everyone says it's free, GfWL (after I finally managed to install it) asked for a key, which I obviously don't have, so I just forgot about Tinker for a while.

Now, I'm trying to repack Shadowrun 2007, another GfWL game, but I ran into major issues during playtest. First it had problems recognizing my hardware, stating that the game will probably crash, since it requires Pixel Shader version at least 2, while I have 3 (WTF?). Once in game it runs fine, right up to the point when it loads GfWL overlay. I have the NOCD by Razor, but GfWL is asking me for a key. The major problem is that whatever I do, GfWL redirects me to a nonexistant page.

Now, my question would be if GfWL even works in 2015, and how do we run GfWL games today?

Use a GfWL emulator. pawcat (cs.rin.ru) made one. But, I can't remember what the final version is/was right now.

I'll look for it. But having to use an emulator probably murders the idea of a repack. If anyone knows another way around, please let me know.

Takes to Softopedia. Yup, that's where I got it from. Won't run without GfWL, and the latter won't let you into the game, unless you provide a key.

Worked like a charm for Tinker. Repacked it with the emulator. It's Sandbox XLive dll, btw. Didn't add an registry, though. It doesn't seem like it uses any registry. Will probably update this with x64 version, I assume that's what came with Vista64. Will try for Shadowrun. Although this dll disables the Multiplayer, and Shadowrun was heavily marketed as MP game, I assume the SP part isn't thoroughly thought through. But still I think it's better than no game at all.

yep, it's a simple dll to put in the game exe directory. It worked with a lot of titles I tried so far.
Please help me! Check HERE for my requests / most wanted titles!
