setup.exe is not a valid WIN32 application

Postby hoffman59 » Sat Dec 05, 2015 5:47 am

Hi. So I downloaded L-Zone and Yellow Brick Road. They came with CUE and ECM files, and a batch file that extracted the ECM as a BIN. I mounted the BIN/CUE with DaemonTools, converted it to an ISO with UltraISO (has worked fine for me so far) and then mounted the ISO in a Windows 98 virtual machine. When I open the drive folder and try to run the SETUP application, I get the message "setup.exe is not a valid WIN32 application".

This happens with both games. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Those are really old games. Both of those games were made for Windows 3.1. You should try it in that OS instead.

Win 3.1 setup files are 16bit right? Not being able to run that in win98 is weird!

Yes, they are but its worth a shot. I'll try them both later today with Win3.1 and see if they work there.

I've had this once, a conversion of the iso failed, all data was useless even text files were grabled up.

So here's a easy check, doe other files work properly? If not, I'm afraid the conversion of the image went wrong.

Just my 2 cents.
