Verdun - 2013 MMOFPS - New Game?

Postby Steve » Sun May 05, 2013 3:19 pm

SUMMARY

VERDUN is a MMOFPS set during the first World War. It is in open beta testing right now as a Unity3D browser game and a "standalone" full release is expected within the year. I tried finding this game here and I could not, so I apologize if this has already been listed.

Loadout - 2013 MMOTPS - New Game?

Postby Steve » Sat May 11, 2013 12:42 pm

SUMMARY

LOADOUT is a MMOTPS (A video shows both conventional third-person & a "right-over-the-shoulder" third-person view but no genuine first-person) set in an apparent post-apocalyptic setting. The game's main mechanic is that the weapons used by the players are highly customizable. The game is right now in closed beta testing & is apparently slated to be released this year. I tried finding this game here and I could not, so I apologize if this has already been listed.

Proteus - 2012 1st-person Exploration? - New Game?

Postby Steve » Thu May 16, 2013 2:06 am

SUMMARY

PROTEUS is a 2012 (if you count the Beta as it's official release year) or 2013 (if you count the "1.0" release) first-person casual exploration game. The visuals are retro-blocky (voxel-based, perhaps?) and the only goal is to walk around and explore the procedurally-generated island. Animals run away when you walk near to them and soft, ambient music plays in the background. There are apparently "seasons" on the island. I'm not sure which Legend World this would fit in... It is first-person but not a shooter... It is adventure only in the sense of exploration. At any rate, I apologize if this has already been listed. Enjoy.

Space Quest Collection (2006 Version) Unofficial Patch

Postby Steve » Mon May 27, 2013 10:15 am

SUMMARY

The 2006 version of the Space Quest Collection released by Vivendi is essentially the actual games themselves played in the very well-known emulator, DOSBox. The version of DOSBox included with the collection, however, is inferior to later versions (even at the time of the collections' release) and some games in the collection will not play on 64-bit systems as a result. This unofficial patch apparently resolves this problem. While a lot of players of classic Sierra titles may be tech-savvy enough to resolve the problems themselves, some people may feel intimidated by the process and this patch supposedly simplifies that process greatly. NOTE: This patch is for the 2006 Vivendi release ONLY.

Dreadnought (2005 FPS) & Dogfighter (2010 Sim) fixes

Postby Steve » Sat Jun 08, 2013 1:22 pm

Dreadnought - 2005 FPS

[NOTE: Here's the Reader's Digest version - Despite where they originated from, Dreadnought & Dogfighter are now owned by Instinct Software which are made up from people who were at Torc Interactive, Instinct Technology & Dark Water Studios. Despite web reportings to the contrary, it appears that the only game that DWS made was Dogfighter before it turned course to make casual games. Instinct Software was active in 2012 but their website hasn't been updated in a while.]

Slightly OT - Outpost 1 & 2 Website

Postby Steve » Sun Jun 09, 2013 1:34 am

SUMMARY

I know that these are real-time strategy games and, thus, aren't necessarily the priority at Legends World but the find was too good not to share. "Outpost" (known later as Outpost 1) & "Outpost 2" were two games from Sierra that debuted in 1994 & 1997, respectively. "Outpost" became known as a scientifically-heavy, overly complicated colony simulation that "bit off more than it could chew." "Outpost 2" was it's lesser-known sequel, a more traditional (for it's time) real-time strategy game. A website known as "The Outpost Universe" may well be the last place on all of the Interwebs where "Outpost" enthusiasts congregate and post all of their Outpost-related creations. In other words, if you've ever had a hankering for anything remotely "Outpost," this place looks to be it. The place offers downloads for both games (although Outpost 2's download claims to be missing music & videos) as well as various unofficial patches that make the games more playable on modern systems & allows for some form of multiplayer with the present-day Internet.

Shadowman (1999 TPS) - Leaked PC Beta?

Postby Steve » Wed Jun 12, 2013 8:10 pm

SUMMARY

This is supposedly a leaked beta demo (PC version) of "Shadowman," a 1999 3rd person shooter. I have no idea of it's validity or if others on this board knew about it or not. From what I have read, the beta is significantly different then the final version.

Penta G (2007 FPS) fixes

Postby Steve » Sat Jun 22, 2013 5:30 pm

PENTA G - 2007 FPS

*** SCREENSHOTS ***

REMOVE -

http://www.gebauz.com/index.php?page=penta-g [NOTE: 404 error. www.gebauz.com is still technically functional but, based on the only page available, it looks all but shut down.]

*** GAME ITSELF ***

REMOVE -

http://www.gebauz.com/files/pentag_installer.exe [NOTE: Same reason as above.]

ADD -

http://www.cg.tuwien.ac.at/~wimmer/game ... g_v1_0.zip [NOTE: Internet archived versions of Gebauz website claims that their own version of Penta G is different then the version presented on the Gametools website (aka "this one"). In their own words, "...The Special Edition (exclusively downloadable here on this Website!) adds Shadow Maps and other nice things compared to the Gametools version!".]

This one looks to be an updated version from one of the developers, not sure if it's the special edition - http://www.cg.tuwien.ac.at/~chiu/files/gtp2.rar

Scallywag (2007 RPG) - New Game?

Postby Steve » Sun Jul 07, 2013 2:51 pm

SUMMARY

SCALLYWAG: IN THE LAIR OF THE MEDUSA is a 2007 action RPG developed by "Chronic Reality" & published by "Shrapnel Games" (Scallywag is the only game in the Shrapnel Games catalog that would "fit" into what 3D & Adventure Legends specializes in). It appears to be in the vein of a Diablo I/II type game. The link below contains both screenshots and demo. There is also an inactive game-centric forum (last used circa 2012) there. I attempted to find this game here and couldn't so, if I missed the game somehow or this isn't the type of game normally listed in Adventure Legends, my apologies.

Star Trek: Secrets of Vulcan Fury (2009 FPS) Changes

Postby Steve » Sun Jul 07, 2013 6:33 pm

Star Trek: Secrets of Vulcan Fury, is presently regarded at Legends World as a First-Person Shooter. However, information indicates that the game was to be a point-and-click (gameplay being similar to the LucasArts game "Full Throttle"). Therefore, perhaps it would be more appropriate to place this in the Adventures Legend website instead?

Also, there is a more robust option for the "Infos" link available. Please replace the "Infos" link with following website address:

http://gaming.trekcore.com/secretofvulc ... index.html

The above-mentioned link appears to be the repository of all present information on this cancelled game, including screenshots, ancillary links, downloads, a FAQ and more.

Blake Stone 2 (1994 FPS) Source Code Released

Postby Steve » Tue Jul 09, 2013 1:20 am

SUMMARY

BLAKE STONE was an FPS based on the Wolfenstein 3D engine at a time when the more sophisticated DOOM engine was all the rage. As a result, BLAKE STONE sank into relative obscurity while DOOM went on to stardom and gaming history. Earlier today, Apogee Software released the source code for BLAKE STONE: PLANET STRIKE, the sequel to BLAKE STONE: ALIENS OF GOLD. It might be a good idea to get this source code while it lasts - Raven Software pulled the source code of JEDI OUTCAST & JEDI ACADEMY after only a few days because of supposed proprietary code not meant for release.
