Apparently, FilePlanet is sporting a notice that it "is no longer being updated and is in the process of being archived". I wonder what 'being archived' entails, and if this means their content will be safeguarded. If not, now's your chance to download & archive some files yourself, before they might become inaccessible.

Hmmm, that sucks. Maybe I'll go through and get the demos for games that don't have any other download available. Thanks for the heads up.

It probably means that once their file retension time on the last file lapses, they're going to close up shop.

Yeah, it sucks... FilePlanet is (was?) definitely a classic website for gamers.

Veteran file hosting site FilePlanet is being shuttered by parent site IGN, after a nearly 13 year run. Though it was quietly announced in April 2012 that Fileplanet would be archived, it remained unclear whether the site would continue to offer services. We reached out to IGN for comment, and today they have confirmed that the site will eventually be taken down.

Interestingly, I see that a group of people called the Archive Team is actively archiving FilePlanet and uploading it to archive.org :
