Assassin's Creed: Valhalla Ubisoft 2020

This is the twelfth main part of the best-selling sandbox series, which debuted in 2007. Although from the beginning the series represented the genre of action games, in 2018 it made a sudden turn towards action RPGs; this game follows the path set then. It takes place in the North of 9th century Europe. In the course of the game we play the role of a character named Eivor, who is the head of the Viking clan. After leaving Norway plunged in endless conflict and crossing the North Sea, the hero (or the heroine, about which in a moment) and his entourage arrive at the coast of England. They discover that there is a bloody power struggle going on in this resource-rich land. Moreover, the hero's clan quickly attracts the attention of Alfred the Great, the King of Wessex, who not only considers himself the rightful ruler of civilized England, but also condemns the pagan Vikings. In order to make England their new home, and to secure the glory and place in the Valhalla, Eivor and his warriors must be involved in another conflict. How their future will turn out depends on the alliances we form or dialogues we choose. It starts with choosing the sex of the character and deciding on his appearance. The authors allow us to modify hairstyle, tattoos, war colours and equipment elements. Then there's nothing else left to do, to go to the right game. In the game we get an open world, which consists of both huge land areas and waters of the North Sea. Traveling on foot is made more attractive by the parkour system, which is the hallmark of the series, and which allows, among other things, to efficiently overcome terrain obstacles and climb the walls of buildings. The sea navigation was based on the mechanics known from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, among others, which was tightened and adapted to the specific time and place of action. During the game we observe the action from the third person perspective (TPP). The game is driven by tasks pushing the story forward and numerous missions and side activities. In doing so, we often make a variety of decisions, from less important ones to those that affect the future of Eivor and his (or her) clan. Besides, during the game, we are engaged in conducting invasions to selected areas rich in resources. In this way we not only gradually increase our sphere of influence, but also obtain the raw materials necessary for the expansion of our settlement. Fights with enemies play an important role in the game. The combat system known from the previous parts of the series has been significantly improved to reflect the ruthlessness of the Vikings as closely as possible, which is reflected, among other things, in the greater emphasis on using two weapons simultaneously. Besides, enemies can be silently eliminated by making use of the hidden blade. As we progress, we face more and more powerful enemies, although we are also growing in strength; the Eivor's combat potential is increased by, among other things, upgrading our weapons and armour with runes.
