L'ospedale lo conosco anch'io: Giochiamo con Tilly [It] Area italia srl 2006

The hospital I know it too is a project financed by the Noi per Loro association, with the contribution of the Cariparma Foundation, carried out in the pediatric wards of the Maggiore in collaboration with the hospital school and preschools in Parma and its province. The prevention of psychological suffering and the state of anguish, linked to the widespread image of the hospital as a place of fear and suffering, is the foundation of the initiative which involved in two phases (2004/2005 and 2008/2009) over 3,400 children and families enrolled in preschools in Parma and its province. During the hours of school attendance, in a condition of psycho-physical well-being, the children together with the volunteers started a serene reflection on the themes of "illness" and "hospital". A similar path was addressed to teachers and parents. To prevent the fear that children feel during hospitalization, the fable Tilly was written, a special butterfly, used by teachers to encourage reflection and discussion with children. The works produced in the classrooms (drawings, written thoughts and sets) are collected in the traveling exhibition “Children tell”. Families were also distributed a booklet with useful information for a possible hospitalization, designed to support the child and his family in dealing with awareness of any hospitalization experience. The project included meetings with health professionals, guided visits to the hospital, traveling exhibitions and a seminar, as well as the creation of the CD Let's play with Tilly, a playful step-by-step path to accompany the child to discover the hospital. The activities involved and sensitized a wide section of the community, helping to promote the image of the hospital as a serene place of care and healing.
