September 16, 2030 - 6:19 AM. At "LABO", a giant scientific research facility built by a lake on the outskirts of "Rokumei City", an "incident" occurs...! And thus, nine souls are trapped in LABO's basement. A world where death eats away at every passing moment. The way out, shut. Frequent inexplicable phenomena. Countless mysteries. And... a bizarre murder that occurred right in that closed space. There are two routes out of this extreme situation: An amnesiac rescue squad captain in LABO- Watase Kasasagi. A nine hour escape drama unfolds from his viewpoint. A high school student trapped in LABO- Natsuhiko Tenkawa. A journey into his memories of the six days leading up to the incident starts from his viewpoint. When two intentions and two sets of memories overlap... all will be revealed. In the end, is there a route for all nine to escape with their lives? The story of Root Double features two different protagonists: Watase Kasasagi, a rescue squad captain who has lost his memories in the hours after the incident, and Natsuhiko Tenkawa, a student piecing together the clues in the six days before. The only key to survival lies in the player’s hands with the Senses Sympathy System (SSS). Unlike traditional visual novels, Root Double does not have clear cut “choices,” but rather, the game uses SSS to allow the player to manipulate the story based purely upon emotion. Your emotions projected upon the characters, particularly your trust in them, shape the progression of the story. Only with effective use of this system and completion of both protagonists’ stories can the player piece together the truth and hope to discover a way out of the facility. An Xtend Edition was first on PS3 in 2015 and was the first English version released in 2016. It contains: New CGs for new content; Adds two new endings; Removal of last choice in Root B; New content has been added to Root D; Revised gameplay; The second round of RAM System from Root D has been removed from route and has been transferred to the "Xtend Episode", a post-game route of sorts where you can view all those scenes. |
