Sea Legends is a successor to famous Sid Meier's Pirates! series. As Richard Gray, a young captain, you have to master ship navigation, sword fighting, trading, sea and land warfare and crew recruiting in order to progress in what begins as a simple story but becomes quite complicated : the plot involves many characters and there are a few twists and turns. This games features many different weapons (cannons as well as rifles and swords) and goods to trade. Managing your ships is much more complex than in Pirates! but the interface is nice and clear. The colonies buildings include a tavern, a governor house, an armory but also a church, which allows you to save your game. One of the most important things in this game is sea warfare. Sea Legends incorporates a 3D voxel engine which was quite impressive for the time and makes combats very realistic (although rather difficult to control). Globally, Sea Legends really is Pirates! with more options, 3D sea combats and a more detailed story. |
