Taito Retro Arcade Pack Taito / Imagineer 1996

This is a PC compilation of several Taito games. Balloon Bomber, Alpine Ski, and Front Line are the games featured in this collection. Balloon Bomber is a small variation of "Space Invaders" that has the player shooting moving the gun sideways and shooting balloons which drop bombs, which are laid out by a biplane. Each balloon shot is worth 100 points and extra points are awarded for shooting falling bombs. Three hits in succession is worth mystery points. As the game goes on, the balloons and their bombs move faster and the balloons are laid out at lower altitudes. Bombs that are dropped by the balloons damage the ground or destroy the gun platform. If the gun platform is destroyed or ground is too heavily damaged, the player loses a life. Alpine Ski is an arcade skiing game that features three levels of different alpine events. The first level is a downhill course in which the player must maneuver his skier around snowmobiles, trees, rocks, ice patches and other skiers while picking up bonus points along the way. The goal is to finish the course in the shortest amount of time possible. The second level ratchets up the difficulty with a slalom course, which tests both the player's precision and speed. In addition to maneuvering around the same obstacles from the downhill course, the player must also navigate around a series of poles and through a number of flagged gates. The final level represents an opportunity for bonus points on the ski jumping hill. Players must use the radar provided to maximize their jump distance, being careful not to land and crash into a tree. Front Line is a vertically scrolling action game. Your mission is to infiltrate enemy territory and destroy their fortress. To reach the fortress, you will have to make your way through varied and dangerous terrain. Jungles, deserts, brush, and rocks all slow your progress, plus each area has numerous enemy fighters and tanks trying to stop you. To help get past these obstacles, you are armed with a machine gun and grenades; at some points in the game you may even come across an abandoned tank which you can control to increase your odds of survival. When you reach the end of the level and successfully destroy the fortress, the game will repeat at a higher level of difficulty. Gameplay is for one or two players, and four different skill levels are available.
