Boraq Mohammed Al-Abras 2006

A vigorous and very well-executed horizontal scrolling shooter from an Arab indie developer who is supposedly from sunny Syria. You are, of course, piloting a super-secret, extremely futuristic airplane. In a horizontal direction from the right edge of the screen, aircraft from an unidentified enemy are flying towards you in an endless stream. There are helicopters, airplanes, supersonic fighters and heavy transport aircraft. They can also shoot. You need to shoot them all down, earning points. Initially, you have three “lives” left. There are four types of ammunition: light unguided rockets, heavy unguided rockets, homing red triangle rockets and red balls. The latter can be shot not in a horizontal direction, but only in a vertical direction, and in both directions, perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of your airplane. This way you can destroy enemy air assets, to put it correctly in aviation terms, flying next to you at adjacent echelons. There is the possibility of gameplay together with a partner on the same keyboard. The difficulty of the passage is well balanced: if you relax, you will soon lose, if you are focused, you will go far through the game... The game panel at the bottom of the screen displays important information - the number of lives, the remaining stock of various missiles. Among the special bonuses, we can mention: interception of control - you “glue” the nearest enemy aircraft from the oncoming flow to you and shoot it at the enemy (!); basket - a reinforced mesh completely envelops you, making the car temporarily invulnerable. The damage model is simple: from hits from shots and missiles, “life” is reduced in several gradations, and from collisions in the air with other vehicles, it is immediately lost. At the end of the game there is a victory over the boss... The graphics are excellent: bright, contrasting. The mountain landscapes are superbly drawn. Screen resolution – 640x480. In some places there was cloudiness in the sky (insufficient visibility) and even rain (bad weather conditions?!). And what atmospheric radio conversations of the pilots in Arabic there are (this would be more suitable for a two-player game, but is simply left in single-player mode). In creating an exciting and exciting atmosphere, they could compete with South Korean or even Japanese sound effects of a similar purpose. An upbeat musical theme plays continuously throughout the gameplay.
