Face Of Mankind Duplex Systems, Nexeon Technologies, Inc. / Ojom, Nexeon Technologies 2006

This is an MMORPG/FPS set in the 24th century using the LithTech Jupiter engine. You have control over an intuitive First Person Shooter style interface. The cutting edge graphics engine will present a world of five huge cities on earth, 20 colonies in outer space and two special places. Choose to join one of ten organizations. Be a soldier for the F.D.C. or a law enforcer of the L.E.D.. Fight for right and order, climb to higher ranks! Decide to be a clan member and find your way beyond the law. Or join one of the companies as a trader, miner or producer to control the complex economic system. It uses the first-ever player generated mission system, and combines it with sophisticated economics. Only your ability to shoot, bargain, politic and otherwise duck and deal will make the difference. The success of each and every mission will determine your rise to the top, or otherwise. The skill and luck of the players from rival factions change the balance of power. Highly ranked players create missions which are split and handed down through the hierarchy. The objective of the game is to evolve your character to its ultimate potential, whether that is the accumulation of wealth, power, social status or all three. Face of Mankind has had possibly one of the longest beta processes in the history of video gaming. Closed Beta testing started in April of 2004, and Open Beta started in February 2005. The second phase of open beta testing started in December 2005 and is ongoing. Open Beta gave FoM the biggest changes: three interface revamps, the Jupiter engine, and completely new character models.
The Face of Mankind official portal was hit by a series of DoS attacks during the month of May 2007 ; The attacks made the official portal unavailable throughout the month. These attacks were cited as playing a part in the eventual closure of Face of Mankind as a financial venture. The perpetrators were eventually arrested after an investigation by the Scotland Yard Computer Crime Unit. On November 2nd, 2007, Face of Mankind publisher Ojom ceased support for the development and operation of the game. On December 29, 2009, it was re-released, introducing both free and premium accounts. Free accounts have multiple restrictions; such as limited storage, amount of items simultaneously on the market, the inability to gain higher than rank 4, and the inability to use Apartments and Civilian clothing (a later patch allowed free accounts to access apartments owned by premium accounts). The Premium account cost is $9.99 USD per month. A successful Kickstarter campaign funded development of a new iteration of the game called Face of Mankind: Fall of the Dominion which came out in April/2014. It shut down on September 3, 2015.
