This co-op themed historical action game carries on in the tradition of Assassin's Creed. It puts you in control of one of two Templar Knights in the 13th century that are out to battle various evil forces, from rescuing ladies to taking out big lumbering beasts of men and more. You also are in the middle of uncovering a conspiracy. Even in single player mode you have at least one constant AI companion that helps you out and you can switch between controlling the two characters on the fly. In the hack-and-slash action game, later on you get a new friend to control - Marie a woman who knows her way around knives. While the Templars are mostly melee weapon based Marie can do some throwing tricks with her weapons for some more ranged attacks. Each mission in the game has one set goal in the end, whether its a rescue or to gather info or to simply cut open a bunch of enemies. However there are a number of side missions and secrets that players can take on if they want. In the opening chapter you can choose to rescue a couple from a burning barn. In another mission you can defeat an enemy while exploring a creepy forest cemetery. Completing each mission yields some extra rewards, such as some more XP, some buffed up skills or a nice extra item or two. You can also gain new items by opening up treasure chests. They sometimes yield some improved weapons and armor. There's puzzles that can only be solved if the two characters work together. In a section of the game set in a dungeon, the characters must figure out how to open up gates to allow each other to move to the next section. There's even a section of the game where you have to defend a city under siege by controlling a trebuchet siege engine on a castle wall. Targeting and firing the trebuchet against the invaders will keep enemies attacks down in later stages of the game. There's also a bit of stealth action in some parts of the game as you have to avoid being spotted in a dungeon sequence by guards. A Special Edition contains bonus mission “The Arena”: Caught by the vile Byzantine, you have to survive the perils of the Arena. Fight for your life, face the Gauntlet and stage your escape. Choose who will stand beside you as you confront the Byzantine and his minions. |
