This is an excellent freeware 3D remake of SEGA's arcade flight simulator After Burner. Players start from the aircraft carrier and shoot enemy planes out of the sky. Weapons include a fast vulcan cannon (a machine gun with unlimited ammo) and a limited number of missiles. Just like in the original game the fighter flies forward automatically, the player only needs to steer. The arrow keys are used to move, with two additional keys for each weapon type. Your guns fire automatically, missiles lock on as soon as your sights pass over the target, so all you have to do really is dodge enemy fire and launch the odd missile now and then. Excellent graphics and wonderful remakes of all the game's enemy jets make the experience worthwhile, though, and recalls the fun of the arcade version. This is a much closer remake to the original than SEGA's own effort, Sky Target 3D. |
