Dave Gnukem is a free 2D platformer inspired by the first Duke Nukem. It's not intended to be a clone of Duke Nukem 1. It's also not a 're-make'; it's more like a parody. It features an integrated level editor. The year is $CURRENTYEAR+8. An evil genius, Dr Proetton, has been hired by the CIA to infect the world's computers with a virus called SystemD, crippling them. Only you can stop him. You must find the floppy disk with the Devuan Antivirus on it, and install it on the master computer, which is hidden in Vault7. The main hero is Dave Gnukem who fights against an alien invasion. Dave has a gun to annihilate various enemies, he explores levels, searches keys to open locked gates, uses elevators and avoid traps like spikes. He has a health bar. When all health is lost the entire level needs to be replayed. An early version was first started in 1994 then further development was done in 2001 until 2004, and finally in 2016 through 2020. A finally complete version 1.0 came out in 2018. |
