Alan Wake Remedy Entertainment / Nordic Games 2012

This critically acclaimed game was first released on XBox360 in 2010 and is a story-driven action game in the psychological thriller genre. The plot follows bestselling thriller novel writer Alan Wake, as he uncovers the mystery behind his wife's disappearance while both are on vacation in the small town of Bright Falls in the U.S. state of Washington, where he experiences blackouts and visions of characters and ideas from his latest novel, which he cannot remember writing, coming to life. Darkness plays a significant role in the game, and the core combat gameplay of Alan Wake consists of "fighting with light". In its pacing and structure, Alan Wake is similar to a thriller television series, with episodes that include plot twists and cliffhangers. The game itself consists of six episodes, and the fiction is continued by two special episodes, titled "The Signal" and "The Writer", that were made available as downloadable content (DLC) for the console version and are included in the pc release. Additionally, a six-episode live-action web series called Bright Falls acts as a prequel to the game, and a number of related books also expand upon the Alan Wake story. During the game's daylight passages Alan explores and discovers Bright Falls with its town life and woods, including an in-game radio station and different TV channels. The game's dramatic and action-oriented elements start at nightfall. People and animals in the game turn into most harmful beings at night. They are engulfed by a darkness that transforms them. Called Taken, they are extremely vulnerable when exposed to light and that is how to fight them. Alan's main tools for survival are a gun and a flashlight. Throughout the game both tools vary and Alan will find better weapons and stronger flashlights. Flashlights require batteries and these can be drained, especially when he focuses the light into a stronger beam to remove the dark influence surrounding people and creatures quicker. Enemies can only be shot after the veil of darkness surrounding them has been removed with light. PC enhancements include higher resolutions; fully configurable mouse and keyboard support (or if you prefer to play with the Microsoft gamepad connected to your PC, you can do that too); a wide selection of customizable graphics settings and support for 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios; multithreaded engine that takes advantage of quad core CPUs; works with AMD Eyefinity 3D 3-screen mode and with NVIDIA NVISION2 Stereoscopic 3D. In Oct/2021, Alan Wake Remastered was released with the main game and its two story expansions - The Signal and The Writer - in stunning new 4K visuals along with a new commentary track from creative director Sam Lake.
