Cube Wouter van Oortmerssen 2002

Cube is an open source independent 3D engine platform with which one can very fast make single and multiplayer maps and also play of course. Underneath it lays still a scripting language which one must not use as a newcomer, however if inclined you can learn it as well. As a model, Quake serves as comparison. Only 28Mb are to be downloaded and the engine even on slow computers runs well. There is rather good newcomer tutorials and one has after about 15 minutes :-) your first immediately playable maps ready. The whole world exists in Cube from (if you wonder) thrown dice which can be changed relatively freely and quickly. Enclosed are already more than 20 maps which can be also changed in the touch of the button "E" (Edit mode) and be examined. What disappoints a bit are: the monsters (look a little bit funny), the (like Quake) conditioned choice of weapons, and one must find for himself some tutorials about important things like "scripting" very full of trouble. BUT it is Open Source and one can look for himself in the game code (see Half-Life 2 hehe) ;-) For players who just want another "Medal Of Honor" this is not extremely advisable, but for those interested in the subject 3D games production it is recommended.
