How Would You Survive? Grolier Electronic Publishing Inc. 1995

This will take users one step closer to what Einstein only dreamed of - time travel. The multimedia CD-ROM is an adventure back into the daily lives of some of the most amazing ancient civilizations. Based on the Franklin Watts book set of the same name, this interactive trip will whisk users away from the present and immerse them into the sights and sounds of ancient Egyptian, Viking, and Aztec cultures where they experience the lives of these peoples first-hand. The goal is to present these stories and lives of these ancient civilizations in a simple but clear way for young people to learn and have fun at the same time. By way of extensive, elaborate illustrations taken directly from original works created and designed by David Salariya, plus animations and sound effects, users can partake in a multi-dimensional learning adventure. They experience, among other things, how their ancestors played, what they ate, how they dressed, how they earned a living, what school was like, and how they communicated. Each culture includes a "survival guide" containing basic facts, a map, and a timeline to help the user. They can pose intriguing questions such as: "What were the religious beliefs of the Aztecs?"; "What was an Egyptian education like?"; and "What type of food did the Vikings favor?" With this unique disc, users can explore one civilization to learn about education, eating habits, religion, etc., or they can jump from one civilization to another to compare cultural differences and similarities between two or three. At the end of your journey, there's a "quizzical game" which poses questions about the different cultures. It will let you know if you are destined to a fiery sendoff down a fjord toward eternity as a Viking, or if you would be in great company with Cleopatra as she strolled the banks of the Nile.
