This was initially a Czech rpg sequel Brány Skeldalu II: Pátý učedník before an English version was released in 2004. Help Engeor, a student at the University of Magic, save Rovenland from the
evil wizard Wahargem. In the beginning of the game Engeor accidently says something
against the evil wizard and finds himself in a prison camp. His first task is to
free himself from the prison so he can continue on his journey to save his country
and its inhabitants. The Fifth Disciple is a magical, fantasy adventure with RPG
elements. The game is point and click and the puzzles are inventory based. The RPG
elements are turn based combat and leveling up. The combat involves only magic spells
and there are no weapons involved in the fighting and, since the combat is turn
based, the player has plenty of time to select the best strategy to win the battle.
When Engeor levels up, new spells can be selected or current spells can be strengthened.
It's a fine synthesis of two popular computer game styles: point-and-click adventure
and fantasy RPG. The game combines the two styles in a way very similar to table games
where players are heroes who complete logic and story tasks as well as fight in battles
with enemies. The game alternates between solving problems through objects and
communication with other characters, and move-by-move battling. For every task solved
and enemy defeated, Engeor is given additional experience, which can be used to improve
one of 25 available spells. Those can be applied in the course of the game during
combat as well as in the adventure parts. |
