Hoshi Saga Series Yoshio Ishii / Nekogames 2007

From the creator of the Submachine series comes this point-and-click adventure series. Hoshi Saga (May/2007) - is a simple game of discovery. One part point-and-click and one part puzzle game, the objective in each of the game's 36 stages is to find the star. How you go about doing that is different for every stage. The task is up to you to figure out how. There are 25 stages to explore freely as you wish, with another 11 stages that must be unlocked by completing rows and columns of stages that appear on the stage select menu. The menu also shows the relative difficulty for each stage represented by a number of highlighted stars (out of 5). It combines unique interaction design with simple yet effective graphics that together form an engaging and compelling experience. Some stages are easy and that's the hook. Once you discover how simple and yet irresistible these unique little puzzle games are, you'll be coming back to this again and again until you've solved them all. Thankfully an integrated save system is employed to save your progress across sessions. Hoshi Saga 2 (Sep/2007) the goal remains the same: find the star in each level. There are 36 new levels to discover, and the level numbers pick up right where the first game leaves off. None of them are very difficult, but some may stump you for a bit until you figure out what it is you need to do. Hoshi Saga 3 (Sep/2008) - In this edition, there are 20 stages to explore freely as you wish, with another 16 stages that must be unlocked by completing rows and columns of stages that appear on the stage select menu. Hoshi Saga Ringo (Jan/2010) - while it might not be as difficult as its predecessors, Ishii-san brings new life to the game with his beautiful artwork and use of gradients. This one is in color. As before, each puzzle asks you to click and drag your way to finding a star hidden within each screen. Feel free to click around and explore each level to find each solution. This episode contains 25 new puzzles to solve. Sadly, if you were a fan of the difficult five-star puzzles in past iterations of Hoshi Saga, you'll be a bit disappointed, as the highest-ranked puzzle here is two and a half stars. Hoshi Saga Ringoame (Apr/2010) - This one has more full-color artwork in 25 brand new levels. This is an excellent warm-up exercise to get you used to the sort of puzzles seen throughout the series. Hoshi Saga Ringoen (May/2011) - While there are 25 different scenarios to solve, only 16 of them can be accessed immediately. You will need to solve the first four levels in each row across to access the fifth level in that row, and you will need to solve the first four puzzles in each column down to access the fifth as well. Hoshi Saga Ringohime (Sep/2011) - This has another 25 new stages to clear. The artwork is gorgeous with its soft and striking watercolor hues and textured backgrounds. Hoshi Saga Dokuringo (Oct/2011) - This latest set of levels contains some risqué imagery, as well as some way more difficult stages. Inside you'll find 25 new stages to clear, made up of images from the previous "ringo" games with all new puzzles (and mini-games) designed for them, and all you need to do is find the star.
