Piper Splash Studios 1996

This is an interactive film made for children that is based upon the story "The Pied Piper of Hamelin." The action is relocated to western times in a mining town called Midas Valley where there is an overabundance of rats. Desperate to end the problem, the town enlists the help of a stranger who comes to town and calling himself Piper (played by Jason David Frank of Power Rangers fame). However, there is a much more devious scenario taking place in which Piper is heavily involved in and which the future of Midas Valley is threatened by. Like most CD-ROM games during this period, the story makes great use of full motion video and live action sequences which encompasses a majority of the game. However, on a few occasions, there are momentary breaks in the action where you have the ability to take part in a number of different action and puzzle sequences. There is even a few "Find the object" sequences that involve you trying to find rats which are hidden within scenes. The success or failure of these sequences can trigger different video sequences which have no effect on the story which is told in a largely linear style. Even so, how well you do in each episode of the game is kept in the form of a high score which can be improved with subsequent replays. While the game is neatly packed onto one CD-ROM, the game actually came packed with a bonus CD featuring songs from the game's many musical sequences and a 6 minute behind the scenes video about the creation of the game.
