Dinotopia: Game Land Activity Center Activision / ImageBuilder Software, Inc. 2002

Released in conjunction with Hallmark Entertainment's Dinotopia miniseries on ABC, the PC title Dinotopia: Game Land Activity Center is a collection of seven games, activities, and puzzles based on the fantasy world where humans coexist with living dinosaurs. Graphics depict the art style of James Gurney, the artist and author whose creation of Dinotopia began with a series of oil paintings and stories that have been profiled in Smithsonian Magazine. His creations are brought to life through this game in the form of word searches, mazes, picture puzzles, and other similar activities. A map of Dinotopia displays at the beginning of the game and allows players to select to visit any of the seven displayed areas. Each area has a different game to play or puzzle to solve. Choose from decoding the alphabet of Dinotopia in Waterfall City, uncover images of oil paintings by sliding tiles and solving picture puzzles in Treetown and Sauropolis, work through mazes in The Portal cave, play a game of concentration with hatching dinosaur eggs at the Hatchery, and solve word search puzzles in Volcaneum. Canyon City contains a side-scrolling game where players fly skybax through three levels while avoiding other dinosaurs, balloons, and mountains. A toolbar at the bottom of the screen contains icons providing options for returning to the main map, restarting a new game, receiving clues and instructions, setting one of two difficulty levels and printing when applicable. There are opportunities to print the word searches, mazes, and decoding puzzles as well as an option to print pictures when the picture puzzles are solved. Changing the difficulty setting changes the game by creating word searches with longer lists, picture puzzles with more pieces, more intricate mazes, and more eggs to match at the Hatchery.
