Monolith CD, The Monolith 1995

This CD was the first ever released by the developer Monolith who went on to make several popular game series like Blood, No One Lives Forever and F.E.A.R. This demo disc, aptly named MegaMedia, has some programs with games, videos, music audio tracks, and other random efforts on it. The theme on this CD, unsurprisingly, is Monolith themselves. One of the programs is a virtual reality experience called DOSRage (winrage.exe) which looks kind of like the 3D first person view from the win 95 sampler CD's. Also there is some early work on Claw in it and the Monolith edition of Microman (which was later reworked into the first episode of The Adventures Of MicroMan), a side-scrolling action platformer. Microman uses "WAP" (Windows Animation Package) engine which was one of the first 2D gaming engines (with flicker-free software sprites) created specifically for Windows. The CD is filled with games such as an Asteroids clone called Asteroid Miner and a few animations including their logo at that time as well as a really trippy experience called "Just a Dream". WINJIVE.ZIP - Interactive real-time bitmap distortions...set to the jammin' tunes of MONOLITH. WINSTAR.ZIP - Interactive 3D starfield simulations...so real, you may puke. Don't forget to pump up the music. There's also a MOD tracker song.
