Being a Scientist: The Case of the Vanishing Trees Anglia Multimedia 1996

National Curriculum Science sets a number of specific requirements at Key Stage 2. This CD-ROM has these clearly in mind as it helps develop pupils' powers of investigation, observation and deduction. It also makes a particular point of targeting some of the Attainment Targets which are difficult to achieve in the classroom. The pupil becomes a scientist to help solve the mystery of the vanishing trees. He or she joins our three investigators, their journalist friend and the animated owl as they find clues and test scientific ideas. They navigate their way around the richly detailed environment from the forest through the village to the town, being sure to collect the clues needed to solve intriguing puzzles. Interviews with the cabinet maker, the saw mill owner, the forester and others, the carrying out of tests in their workshops and factories, the identification of trends and making of comparisons, are all part of the process which they will undertake. After collecting the clues, solving puzzles and meeting the people involved, the pupil will be able to conduct experiments on screen and make the final deductions that will lead them to a conclusion.
